Review: Spider-Man: Far From Home
Spider-Man: Far From Home, directed by Jon Watts, tells the tale of Peter Parker (Tom Holland) who adjusts to life as Spider-Man after the events of Avengers: Endgame. To get his mind off things, Peter embarks on a summer trip with his friends and classmates, hoping to confess his love to MJ (Zendaya). But before being able to do so, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) arrives to recruit Parker for a mission. Together with the help of a mysterious new ally named Quentin Beck (Jake Gyllenhaal), Peter must do everything he can to save the world from total destruction.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has had a pretty good track record as of late, both financially and critically. People are still reeling over Avengers: Endgame which as of this review is on its way to becoming the highest grossing film of all time. I thoroughly enjoyed Endgame despite not being a huge fan of the MCU overall. Now that the Avengers franchise is all but over, it’s now time for Marvel to lay out its plans for the future, and what better way to start off the next phase than with a Spider-Man movie. I had fun watching the last Spidey film Homecoming, and Far From Home is more of the same. It’s a fun Spider-Man film that many people can enjoy.
Just like with Homecoming, this film thrives off its action sequences. It’s still cool to see Spider-Man do Spidey stuff. Tom Holland gives a great performance as Peter Parker, Jake Gyllenhaal was terrific as Mysterio, and the rest of the cast held their own pretty well. I also liked how the story built off from the events of Endgame and managed to give us great character development for Parker in this film. The CG was solid for the most part, the writing was funny, and everything else was what you’d expect in a Marvel film.
Overall this film was another fun time at the movies. The action is enough to get you hooked for the rest of the film, the performances were fine, it springboards off Endgame very well, it’s just a fun summer blockbuster. If you’re a fan of the MCU of Spider-Man in general then this is a good film to check out, especially for the mid and post credit scenes which were among the MCU’s best. I’m glad I checked this film out and odds are you will too.
Final Verdict: 6/10
